Ewonee "Aux. Tapes Vol. 2" (LP)

Every once in s while, we come across an artist or musician that brings forth a certain quality and feel. Some may describe it as authenticity. Some may even refer to it as soul. This is certainly the case for New York's, Ewonee.
The 21 year-old beatmaker has recently released his latest instrumental album, which is titled, Aux. Tapes Vol.2. This 12-track project provides a variety of sounds ranging from jazz-influenced hip hop that is drenched in a smokey ambience to minimalistic electronic instrumentals. However, despite the tape's wide range of sounds, it doesn't come across as disjointed, in fact, it's a rather cohesive album.

ZekeUltra - Mastadon (Track)

Miami-based emcee, ZekeUltra, has dropped a noteworthy track entitled, Mastadon, which finds him delivering his braggadocios message with a super laid-back flow. The entire track comes together with production by Clayton Samus, who provides a hypnotic instrumental that gradually draws us in further with every bar.

Smalltown DJ's & Neon Steve ft. Shad "Bad" (Track)

So much Canadian talent in one song! The eclectic line-up in this new track entitled, Bad, consists of Smalltown DJ's, up-and-coming producer, Neon Steve, and London's own, Shad, who fronts the track with his super-lyrical abilities. Bad is not an "EDM" track. It is pure hip hop in the same way that classic party tracks like Planet Rock by Afrika Bambaataa or Flash To The Beat by Grandmaster Flash are pure hip hop.

Von Pea & The Other Guys "So East Coast" (Track)

How does an artist get the opportunity to work with the likes of 9th Wonder and Drake? Von Pea might have a few pointers.
Throughout his 8-year career, this Brooklyn-based emcee has managed to align himself with some of hip hop's heavy-hitters and this time he is connecting with Kevin Nottingham (top hip hop blogger and owner of HIPNOTT Records) to release his upcoming album, To: You
The latest single, So East Coast, features a super-percussive instrumental provided by The Other Guys and contains a hook that is a simplistic as it is infectious. Look out for the album, which is set to release on November 25.

Sapient Announces Reissue of "Dry Puddles" (Video)

No budget, No handouts. This is the story of a true independent artist.

In 2004, a 20 year-old emcee by the name of Sapient released his very first full-length album entitled, Dry Puddles, which he recorded on his own dime and packaged with his own two hands. The album contained an astonishing 27 tracks, which luckily spawned a handful of underground hits and sparked what has now become a successful rap career for the Seattle-based artist. Now, almost a decade later, Sapient is commemorating this monumental point in his life by re-releasing the album on limited edition vinyl (along with some extra goodies). Check the video to find out more about the origins of Dry Puddles.

BadBadNotGood & Ghostface Killah "Gunshowers" (Track)

Toronto jazz trio, BadBadNotGood, is delving into the world of hip hop once again! Not that they ever really left but this time, they're going all in! In the past, the group has worked with the likes of Tyler, The Creator, Pharoahe Monch and Freddie Gibbs, but most of those collaborations served as either live performances or bonus tracks, Also, their last album, III, saw the three musicians experimenting with a sound that leaned more towards their jazzy side than anything else. However, just today they have announced their first full-fledged collaborative hip hop album, which will feature none other than Ghostface Killah as the frontman. How ill is that?

Listen to the new track, Gunshowers, and check back for updates as the album is set to release at some point in February.

Spacesuits "Spacesuits" (LP)

Spacesuits is the result of an organically-formed all-Canadian hip hop group fronted by emcee's Moka Only, LMNO, Mr. Brady, and backed by producer, Jules Chaz. Much like the album's front cover, which depicts a handful of animated alien-like characters hanging out in the real-life city street, the music combines contrasting elements that make for a spaced-out vibe while maintaining the earthy tones that can only be achieved through record sampling. Listen to tracks like Rangers and Nibiru to get a quick taste of the album's juxtaposing nature.
